PLAYERS TO LEARN MORE ABOUT FOR NEXT SEASON
ED DAVIS
A 6'10" sophomore who averaged almost 7 points a game last season. Great shot blocker.
LARRY DREW II
A 6'1" sophomore point guard who has a lot of responsibility this season. Both his dad and Ed Davis's dad played in the NBA.
TYLER ZELLER

Another sophomore, Tyler is a 7'0" player who will be returning from a broken wrist injury and looks remarkably like a young Dean Smith.
JOHN HENSON
A 6'10" freshman from Tampa, Fla. Henson is picked my many to be a future star at UNC. A good offensive player who I believe runs the floor well( you think Roy likes that?). UNC will put him on the Hansbrough bulk up plan as he is thin but a really super player.
LESLIE MCDONALD
A 6'4" freshman guard from Tennessee. A solid player who is good at offense and defense...should play a lot this season.
Enjoy this dunk by Leslie McDonald
DEXTER STRICKLAND
A 6'3" guard from New Jersey. Not to be outdone here are some dunks by Dexter.
Also new will be the Wear twins ( David and Travis )...2 tall kids from California who will be in Chapel Hill this fall.
Marcus Ginyard is back from injury. Deon Thompson should be a solid player on defense and should score quite a bit. I think we will see lots of freshmen playing and we will have a very tall team on the court ( can't wait to see the look on opposing coaches faces when we send Deon and maybe Ed Davis to the bench and bring in Tyler Zeller and John Henson. These are tall Tar Heels! )

Quotes from Coach Roy:
On Monday’s off day -
"The players had [Monday] off, but I’ll tell you something that will everybody just shake their heads. We’ve had a tough stretch of games and travel and it’s been tough with guys getting beat up. And [Monday] at 3 p.m., I go down to the locker room to pick something up – think I had left my coat – and I started to head back upstairs, and I heard the ball bouncing. I walked into the gym, [and] Tyler Hansbrough is in there with a manager working on on his shot. That’s the most unbelievable young man that I've ever been around."

Article on Tyler and his brother Ben here

Dreaming of stardom
Coached by his father from a young age, Tar Heels' Lawson begins next step in his development tonight
Lorenzo Perez, Staff Writer
George Lawson had his son dribbling figure-eights at the age of 5. He would get on his knees to play Ty one-on-one on the preschool-sized basket he and his wife, Jacqueline, set up in their house at Andrews Air Force Base.

Another great Lawson article here...
CATCH LAWSON IF YOU CAN
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The noisy debate about who is the best point guard in the country always seems to center around the freshmen – Indiana's Eric Gordon, Memphis' Derrick Rose and USC's O.J. Mayo.
As a service to those three kiddies, however, perhaps their coaches could get a tape of North Carolina's 98-82 victory here over Miami and show them the fine work of their elder statesman, Tar Heel sophomore Ty Lawson.
Lawson had 23 points, 10 assists, five rebounds and a solitary turnover in a point guard performance that absolutely has to be as good as any this season.
Or, at least by Roy Williams' standards, any season, maybe.
"I had some great guards at Kansas," Williams said

BROTHER'S RESOLVE INSPIRES
Greg Hansbrough overcomes the odds
Robbi Pickeral, Staff Writer
CHAPEL HILL - On the rare occasions Tyler Hansbrough does not feel like pushing up one more bench press, shooting one more hook shot or running one more sprint, the North Carolina forward simply thinks about his older brother, Greg.
Then he does 10 more of each.

Good insights on the 2007 team from Luke Winn with SI
Breaking Down the Heels
Heart and Soul: Hansbrough. As Lawson says,"He's the hardest worker I've ever seen. Ever."
It's difficult for the Heels to suffer lapses in intensity
with Hansbrough around; he's such an obsessed workout warrior
that, according to Williams, he skipped the Pan American Games trials
because "because he felt like his own program is better than what he
could have gained by going to the U.S. team."
If Monday's practice was any indication, Hansbrough
is already operating at peak level. He looked more
explosive around the rim than before, and was --
as expected -- the most aggressive player in nearly every drill.
At one point when Williams was lecturing the squad, he pointed to
Hansbrough and asked if anyone else was a two-time All-ACC pick
and an All-America. "I'd be trying to learn from him,"
Williams said.
Most Improved: Thompson. This is a convenient development for the

FUNNY STUFF!

Dukie V’s Season to Remember: A hilarious, completely unauthorized collection of parody columns from the 2006-07 college basketball season.
By Brian Allen
"Dukie V’s Season to Remember” is the ultimate sports parody collection, written for the legions of fans who have had it up to their ears with the Duke lovefest. The book presents a season long series of spoof columns, each written to mimic Vitale’s lingo, cadence, and, above all, his nauseating love of Duke.
Check out this book from the author of the "Anti-Duke Manifesto".
